Northern Marine are currently seeking an Instrument Technician for a short term contract with one of our Offshore clients.

Job Purpose

Responsible to the Vessel Chief Engineer for the maintenance of the vessel’s electronic systems including, but not limited to, Dynamic Positioning system equipment, Engine Room (ER) monitoring equipment and other department electronic systems.

Key Activities

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Dynamic Positioning (DP) system
  • Responsible for operating, updating and maintenance of the ship’s computer network
  • Will keep the Vessel Master and Senior DP Watchkeepers fully informed on matters affecting the DP system. Will not undertake any work on the system without prior consultation and receipt of approval to conduct such work. This especially applies whilst the vessel is in any form of DP mode
  • Will notify the Master and keep him fully informed of the progress of any work which he has undertaken and shall notify him of any defects or problems that he has encountered in his area of responsibility
  • Responsible for ensuring that a true and accurate record of work that he has carried out is kept and entered in the maintenance records and his hand-over notes. This will include ensuring that manuals and drawings pertaining to equipment within his area of responsibility are kept corrected and up to date, in the event of any modification
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all radio communication equipment, radars, and electronic navigation equipment
  • Responsible for ordering spares and stores for the radio and electronics department and liaising with the Storekeeper. In addition will keep the Vessel Master fully informed of urgent spares requirements which could affect either statutory requirements and/or the safe operation of the DP system
  • Assisting other departments as requested with electronic problems

 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • ETO COC

  • Experience on large offshore vessels

  • Further Education Qualification in Electronic Engineering
